What to wearin Yonago

Based on the San'in climate, what to wear and pack across the seasons in Yonago, Kaike, Sakaiminato, and Daisen—from rain gear to winter warmth and grip on Daisen.

The climate in short

By season

Mar-May

Spring

Wear: Cool mornings and evenings—layer with a long-sleeve plus a light jacket. May is usually the most comfortable.

Bring: Light jacket, folding umbrella, comfortable shoes (the castle climb is ~15 min).

Jun-Aug

Summer

Wear: Hot and humid, with a rainy season around Jun-Jul. Breathable short sleeves; carry a light layer for strong indoor AC.

Bring: Sun protection, hat, hydration; rain gear; extra sun cover for the dunes/coast.

Sep-Nov

Autumn

Wear: Best walking weather but big day-night swings. Light sweater plus a jacket; add a layer for Daisen in November.

Bring: Layerable mid-layer, folding umbrella; warmth and grippy shoes for Daisen foliage.

Dec-Feb

Winter

Wear: Coastal Yonago and Sakaiminato get less snow but are damp, cold, and windy—warm coat, scarf, gloves. Daisen is snow-country level.

Bring: Waterproof warm outerwear, non-slip shoes; for Daisen bring snow-ready gear, and if driving use snow tires and check conditions.

Pack these whatever the season

Pack rain gear all year

San'in gets about 2,000mm of rain a year, possible in any season. A folding umbrella or light rain jacket is basic, and plan a rainy-day fallback.

Add warmth and grip for Daisen

Daisen's temperature and snowfall are more extreme than the coast, and the mountain is colder than central Yonago. Even in other seasons, bring an extra warm layer and grippy shoes for Daisen; winter needs snow gear.
